POETIC SCALES: FROM SAND TO STONES

NanoGagliato 2011

2011

  • in the Department of Nanomedicine and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas Health Science Center, I was invited to construct a temporary project during NanoGagliato 2011, a Nanomedicine Conference, held in Gagliato, Calabria, Italy.

The nanoimages I had observed in the laboratories were quite extraordinary and existed because of the capabilities of sophisticated imaging equipment. To the uninitiated eye, the images were abstract and surreal. I saw that these abstract "photographs" could open an interesting door of exploration and explanation, and provide an opportunity for a visual conversation between the scientists, their research, and the individuals who lived among the traditions and history of Gagliato, Calabria, Italy.
